The Head Start / Early Head Start Nutrition Program offers a better understanding to the child and family about healthy food choices, safe food handling, and how nutrition effects health. Children receive over 2/3 of their daily nutritional needs through the weekly menus offered.

Children and staff eat together to set a good example and encourage conversation at meal-time. The meal-time gives the children a chance to make decisions, learn about new foods, improve their conversation skills, increase hand-eye coordination and many others. The children are involved in nutrition activities in the classroom where they learn all about different foods, food preparation and nutrition in general.

This program participates in the CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program). There is no fee for meals to children and adults (teachers, parents and volunteers) that work directly with the children during meal-time. All others must provide their meals elsewhere.

All Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms eat breakfast, lunch and snack in their classrooms. Your child's teacher will have the dining schedule and menu posted in the classroom. We encourage parents to come in and eat with their child. You are welcome anytime!
