Job Summary:
Education and Experience
- Meet requirements of Head Start Program Performance Standards and/or Kentucky Division of Regulated Childcare.
- High school Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- CDL with Bus and Passenger Endorsements
Knowledge and Skills
- Communicate orally and in writing effectively with diverse groups and demonstrate effective listening skills, respect, be concise and clear, and provide positive body language and empathy with valid feedback.
- Must have the ability to use Microsoft Office and other software programs for documentation, record-keeping, monitoring, and reporting.
- Bilingual/bicultural is desirable.
- Maintain strong organizational skills (organizational skills listed below are not all inclusive).
- Ability to create structure and order to boost productivity.
- Ability to prioritize tasks that must be completed immediately, versus those that can be postponed.
- Ability to develop work habits that prevent procrastination, clutter, miscommunication, and inefficiency.
- Ability to keep work and work area neat and organized.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
- Support family engagement through relationship-based competencies.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to pass a CDL physical, physically lift a minimum of 50 pounds, be able to physically move in a manner suitable to provide care for small children (kneel, crawl, bend, stoop, squat, walk fast/run) and work outdoors in seasonal weather conditions. Must be able to climb stairs, get up/down from floor, sit/stand for long periods of time.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for conducting pre/post trip inspections and completing documentation accordingly to submit to the Transportation Assistant weekly. If repairs are needed complete a maintenance
- request form Submit both the completed maintenance request form and the pre/post trip inspection form to Transportation Supervisor.
- Responsible for the supervision of children and passengers while providing transportation services.
- Responsible to make sure all passengers are in a federally approved restraint device (seat/lap belt, shoulder belt, or an appropriate child restraint device)
- Always wear a seatbelt.
- Responsible for vehicle cleanliness
- Clean buses weekly which may include sweeping, removal of debris, cleaning windows, headlights, overhead lights, brake lights, and taillights as needed.
- Responsible to operate vehicles in a careful, defensive, and safe manner.
- Provide an environment and experience that is safe, pleasant.
- Ensure the bus is an extension of the classroom by creating an experience for children that is conducive to learning.
- Responsible for following a planned bus route, making scheduled stops to pick up or drop off passengers.
- Responsible to supervise the behavior and performance of the Bus Monitor
- Responsible for appropriately inspecting the bus at the end of each trip to ensure all children have been delivered to their destination.
- Failure to assure no child is left in a vehicle may result in immediate termination.
- Responsible for communicating with dispatch (front office) via two-way radio to report that all children have been delivered to their destination.
- Responsible for appropriately respond in the event of abnormal or stressful circumstances while maintaining a safe, secure environment for passengers.
- Responsible to immediately notify dispatch, and/or the Transportation Supervisor and/or the CEO in the event of ANY accident.
